Shaanxi SX 2150 . Shaanxi Automobile Works now Shaanxi Automotive Group In 1968, Xi’an-based Shaanxi Automobile Works (now Shaanxi Automobile Corporation Ltd) introduced the China’s first 6X6 cross-country military truck Yan’an SX250 based on the chassis design of the Soviet Ural-375 and the cab/cargo-bed designs of the French Berliet GBU 15. However, the batch production of the truck was delayed for six years due to poor reliability and other technical problems of the initial design. The modified SX250 entered batch production in 1974 and has been fielded by the PLA in significant numbers since then. China first approached Western European countries in the late 1970s to seek heavy duty truck technologies. Among several European truck manufacturers, Austrian company Steyr-Daimler-Puch (now part of General Dynamics European Land Combat Systems) was finally chosen as the partner to co-produce heavy duty trucks in China for both civilian and military users. Shaanxi Automobile Group Corporation (ShaanxiGroup) based at Xi’an, Shaanxi Province began to build the 7 tonne capacity SX2190 6X6 military truck based on the Steyr truck design and technologies in the 1990s. |
